The silent music of the moonlight

Assalamualaikum

Last night was the Nuit Balanche a Montreal or Montreal High Lights Festival. Should've worn something thicker.I was freezing and my teeth were chattering after a while. The fireworks were pretty. The music was good. I wish i have my own skates so that i can skate under the moonlight.Talking about moonlight, this is a poem i wrote for my English 3U course and No!My bestfriend is still alive and reading this.I love you!=D

Moonlight becomes you

Dear best friend,
Upon the beach I stand,
As the sun kissed the sand,
Wishing you’re here to hold my hand,
When my tears fall on the sand.

Yesterday,
We watched the moon rise,
Learning that life is full of surprise,
You’re always there,
With our feet bare,
While the wind blew our hair,
On this sacred place we share.

Yesterday,
You catch me when I fall,
You taught me how to stand up tall,
As we listened to the rhythm of the ocean,
The air is filled with quiet emotions,
Above us was a full moon,
Why dear friend, do you have to go so soon?

Yesterday,
We wished upon a star so bright,
And you taught me how to dance,
To the silent music of the moonlight,
Praying for another chance,
“When you look at the sea,
Pretend you’re with me,”
That was what you last said,
Isn’t it my beloved soul mate?

That was 10 years ago today,
Finally,
Looking at the wide blue sea,
I’m letting both of us free,
As the breeze caresses my face,
I can feel your embrace,
Powerful, yet full of grace,
Our memories will never be erased,
In my heart it will always stay,

Do you remember?
On the 9th of October?
When we promised to be friends forever?

Till then,Salut.
Love,

Malaysia Truly Asia

Assalamualaikum!

When your Malaysian friends come over, all you want is to be transported back to Malaysia where people speak your language and eat REAL food.No offence, but seriously, other foods are nice too but after awhile, you start craving for dishes that you wouldn't even look at back in Malaysia. So since Filzah and Natasha came all over from Toronto,i was thinking of making them some vegetarian lasagna. But,come on!Italian food?Easy to find.Malaysian food?We have to make our own.Was thinking of making soto, but the fried chicken threw me off.So much for wanting to watch my diet.So i decided to make Koey Teaw Ladna instead.Btw,i've seen gazillion spelling for koey teaw and still don't know the right spelling. As long as you can  pronounce it then you're fine.Like people always say,"Takpe, tak masuk exam".

Koey Teaw Ladna

Koey teaw noodle
5 cloves of garlic
1 medium onion
1 inch of ginger
1 stick of lemon grass
3 kaffir lime leaves
3 chillies
300gram chicken breast
7 shrimps
a handful of spinanch and oyster mushroom
1 carrot
2 cups of chicken stock
2 tablespoon of oyster sauce
A dash of lime/lemon juice
2 tablespoon of cornstarch
1 egg
Oil
White pepper and salt to taste

1) Cook the Koey Teaw Ladna and set aside.
2) Cut the garlic and onion thinly and the chicken breast into cubes.
3) In a saucepan,heat the oil and sautee the garlic,onion,lemon grass,chillies,and ginger.
4) Add the chicken stock, carrot, chicken and shrimps. And let those babies cook.
5) After the chicken is slightly cooked and the broth starts to simmer, add in the oyster sauce, lime leaves, lemon juice, white pepper and salt.
6) Add in the noodles.
7) Add the cornstarch a tablespoon at a time.If one tablespoon gives you the right consistency then your're good to go.Add more cornstarch if its too liquid-y.
8) Break an egg over the noodles and mix them around.
9)Serve it while its hot and garnish it with fried onions and scallion (was to hungry, forgot to garnish them.Sorry dear guests!)=D

If you prefer fried chicken.Toss in the chicken in step 2.Calamari in your Ladna would have tasted yummy too.
I took this picture from the net because we were too hungry to snap a picture of  the Koey Teaw.=D
After a week without snow and sunshine through out the day, I was convinced that Spring is finally here.Who would have guessed that a snowstorm was going to hit Montreal?!Hot choc is not hot enough. So we made Teh Tarik instead.=D

Teh Tarik

2 tablespoon of powdered tea
2 cups of water
6 tablespoon of condensed milk (more or less)
2 Cups

1) Boil the tea on the stove for a few minutes.
2) Sieve the tea.
3) Add the milk.
4) Pour the tea from one cup to the other, ensuring that you pull them at a considerable height.

Voila!Your teh tarik is ready to be enjoyed!=D

This is the only time when you wish Mamak is as famous as McD!McMamak!Boy oh boy!!
Imagine ordering nasi kandar on banana leaf through the Drive-Through.EPIC.

Our yummy-yet-not-so-healthy Teh Tarik!

There's no place like home.My home is where my mum is.=D (because thats where the yummy food is*shh*)
Can't wait to go back and cook for mama bear!Booyah!

Till then,Salut.

Fasta Pasta

Assalamualaikum,

Not being in school means you're home most of the time and the tendency to 'slongkaq' the fridge is higher.
Feeling hungry and craving for cheese (and the need to finish the mushroom before it goes bad),i decided to make mushroom baked pasta for lunch.=) Yeay!

We have this really yummy Laksa Penang in our fridge!(our house reeked of ikan kembung, like seriously) But i'm allergic to belancan,so i can only feast my eyes.8(

LETS MOVE ON!The best thing about making casseroles or pastas is that we can always cook them without using a recipe (the Italians are going to kill me for saying that, but oh well).Like Chef Smith for Chef at Home said it,"the best recipe is cooking without a recipe".

Oh!I'm trying to have a healthier diet did i tell you?So for this recipe, i cut down the amount of cheese used and opt for vegetable oil instead of butter.=D

Mushroom Baked Pasta

A handful of button mushrooms
A handful of parsley
1 tomato
4 cloves of garlic
A cup of cooked pasta (I used Angel Hair)
1 cup of milk
2 tablespoon of flour
1 cup of chicken stock
Pepper and salt to taste

1)Preheat the Oven to about 350 degree Fahrenheit
2) Cook the pasta al dente.
3) Chop the mushrooms, garlic, parsley and tomato anyway you like it.
4)Heat up the oil in a saucepan and sautee the garlic and mushroom until the mushroom softens.
5)Add the the tomatoes and stir for a minute or so.
6)Add the milk and the chicken stock. And continue stirring.
7)Add the the flour and let the sauce thicken.
8)Add chunks of cheese.
9)Let parsley join in the hot tub.Season it with pepper and salt.
10)Put in a casserole dish then let the and put the baby in the sauna a.k.a oven for 10 minutes or so.
Then,Boom Baby!Its ready to be served!=D

I only realized that we had bell peppers after putting my babies in the oven,so next time bell peppers.Next time!I used Mozzarella because thats the only one we have.Go for Cheddar or Parmesan if you want something more sharp.I tried Monterey Jack cheese and fell in love with it!Jack is really yummy and doesn't smell.I'll have dinner with him ANY DAY i tell ya!

Anyhoos,i find the flavor of the chicken stock overwhelming. The forgetful me,forgot to keep the water from the boiled pasta and needed a substitute for that amount of liquid.I didn't want to use milk because as I've said,i need to cut down the fat .=) And if you realize that i used vegetable oil instead of OLIVE OIL.I know that the vegetable oil is not virgin and all but oh well,i used the last drop of olive oil for the lasagna last week.So if you have olive oil in hand,USE THEM!TASTES EVEN BETTER!
And if you your pasta slightly spicy,by all means, add chili flakes or tobasco.Yeay!I love tobasco too.

Oh and btw,if your oven is super duper not antique like mine, use the broiler. For only 5 mins or so.I love antiques but only for display.=/

I just love mushrooms!I love them soo much that once i actually thought of owning a mushroom farm. Why not right?Ngeee!*happy face*

I'm too lazy/hungry to shred the cheese so i cut them in chunks!yeay!A round of applause for the lazy chef,my mum would be so proud(Not!)=D
Its the taste that counts (just to make myself feel better)

P/s: I don't have a camera because i don't like to take pictures (I like to be IN them).Thinking of getting one,hurm..we'll see.I don't think my handphones like to be covered in flour and smell like fish all the time.

I certainly use a lot of the word LOVE in this post. But oh well,I do love everything around me.Just that EVERYONE i love is not around me.=(

Till then,Salut!

A place called Home

Assalamualaikum.

I've always wanted to write a blog where i can share my passion for cooking, sewing and anything artsy.I never said I am artistically gifted, but why not share things that I've learned through books, online tutorials and random people with those who share the same interest.

I just bought my first springform pan and can't wait to start baking! Will try to post recipes of things baked, made and cooked.
Springform Pan!=D

Also patterns if I decide to show some of my sewing projects with my baby Fuschia.
Fuschia,ain't she a beauty?

If i find the guts to post my poems,I will insyaAllah.
Also,do entertain my rumblings and nonsenses once in awhile although my 'once in awhile' happens more than once in a day.=D

May Allah give me strength to express myself online where the world is my audience.Amin.

Till then,Salut.

Love,
